Why We Love This

The Canapé Book by Rachel Bell Maiden. New York: Appleton-Century, 1937. An iconic product of the 1930s. 95 pages, with black-and-white decorations of the period by Lucina Smith Wakefield and pages of recipes for delicious things to eat with drinks--a hornet's nest, or a double deal, perhaps--with some of them from well-known hotels and restaurants. A lovely copy of an amusing book of that era.

About Barbara Farnsworth

My bookstore, an old wooden building at the edge of a New England trout stream, houses thousands of used, rare and antiquarian books, with particular emphasis on Home and Garden subjects -- food and drink, gardening, interior design and architecture. I also carry titles on fashion, children's books and literature. Books really do furnish a room, beautifully!
