Why We Love This

Beautiful vintage ceramic sculpture by Mexican artist, Manuel Felguerez. Felguerez was a member of the Ruptura movement. A pioneer in abstract art in Mexico, he studied in France and his formation and imagery is closely tied to geometric constructivism and abstract expressionism. His exhibitions number in the hundreds; among them, the Biennials in Paris, Sao Paulo and Tokyo. Covered with incised patterns, this piece is beautifully executed. Signed, "Felguerez."

About Ilon Specht

When Ilon Specht was a creative director in NYC she alleviated the stress by collecting antiques. Constantly. "If it was beautiful, and I had a place for it, I bought it. And, if I didn't have a place for it, I bought it." Over the years, she used her finds to decorate. But, as much as she did, she couldn't decorate as fast as she could hunt and gather. So, in 2000, Hacienda was born, dedicated to the diversity of beauty. Run by Martin Sierra. And filled by Ilon.
