Why We Love This

Smith of Wootton Major by J. R. R. Tolkien. London: Allen Unwin. 1975, first printing of illustrated edition, thus. A very good copy of the first printing of a second edition, illustrated by Pauline Baynes, who worked on other Tolkien titles, and the Narnia books. (Original book was smaller format, 1967.) Tolkien parodies a medieval saga, with overtones of Bilbo Baggins in Smith, who does not fit into his small village. Hardcover, issued without jacket, with slight wear to edges.
