Why We Love This

Three Lives, by Gertrude Stein. New Directions, 1945. 279 pages. New Classics #3. Cover design by Alvin Lustig, one of the most important Modernist book cover designers of the mid-20th century. His starkly surreal style was reliant on hand-cut paper shapes and sparse photographic fragments laid out with a strong sense of the grid. A nice price-clipped jacket with some fading at the spine and minor chipping and tears on the edges.
