Why We Love This

The Gentle Art of Making Enemies, by painter James McNeill Whistler. A 1904 reprint of the original title, self-published in 1890. The book was a response to - and transcript of - Whistler's libel suit against critic John Ruskin, who had referred to Whistler's painting Nocturne in Black and Gold – The Falling Rocket as "flinging a pot of paint in the public's face." Whistler's letters to newspapers highlight many quibbles with acquaintances and friends.
