Why We Love This

Mots d'Heures: Gousses, Rames by Luis d'Antin Van Rooten. New York: Grossman Publishers, 1967. 11th printing. The bizarrely clever attempt to reproduce well-known children's rhymes by re-forming them phonetically in French, which then mean something else. Every poem should be read out loud in your best Inspector Clouseau voice and suddenly they make perfect sense. A remarkable piece of brilliant nonsense by an American actor and society wit from the 1960s.
