Why We Love This

Pair of northern Igbo/Izzi shrine figures from Nigeria. Classical form with dense, hard wood. The standing figures represent deities or ancestors. Traditionally grouped together in symbolic families and kept in village shrines. Dimensions: Taller figure, 5"W x 5.5"D x 2"7H; smaller, 4"W x 4.5"D x 24"H; bases, 8.25"W x 8.25"D x 0.25"H.

About Antonio Martins

A native of Brazil, acclaimed San Francisco-based interior designer Antonio Martins has an uncommon global vision. He started his career in Switzerland, where he acquired an appreciation for European design. From Switzerland he moved to Venice, to Frankfurt, then to Hong Kong in the early 1990s for 11 years, where he became immersed in Asian arts and cultures, from Chinese furniture to Shan sculpture from Thailand to Indonesian textiles.
