Why We Love This

An original stipple engraving from Joseph Antoine Risso and Pierre Antoine Poiteau’s Histoire Naturelle des Orangers published in Paris in 1818. A beautiful and inspiring work, the Histoire was to the illustration of fruit what Redoute’s Les Roses was to flowers, and was equally influential in promoting the popularity of the newly developed stipple engraving technique. This image is hand-colored and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
