Why We Love This

Ned Guymon assembled one of the great mystery libraries (16,000 volumes), which he bequeathed to Occidental College. It is uncommon for a book from that collection, with his distinctive bookplate, to be in private hands. One exception is this copy of Colin Watson's Snobbery with Violence, Crime Stories and Their Audience (First Edition, 1971). Book concerns how contemporary taste and opinions influenced such mystery writers as Ian Fleming and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Hardcover.

About Nick Harvill Libraries

California-based Nick Harvill Libraries specializes in out-of-print and rare books from the 20th century on fashion, design, art, social history, travel, Hollywood, and photography. NHL and its books have been profiled in Vogue, C Magazine, The Peak of Chic, Angeleno, Vogue Living, the Los Angeles Times, and American Express’s Black Ink Magazine. Elle Décor recommended NHL for its “hip vintage books” from a “smart young dealer.”
