Why We Love This

Hand-carved sheesham (Indian rosewood) paduka (wood slippers) from southern India. Paduka are little more than a sole with a post and knob between the big and second toe. More elaborate versions could be part of a bride's trousseau, given as religious offerings, or simply be an object of veneration.

About Tansu Design

Inja Yang travels throughout Asia sourcing antiques for her 25-year-old business,Tansu Design. Her inventory of furniture ranges from Chinese horseshoe armchairs to blanket chests with iron hardware from her native Korea. Accessories are equally esoteric; visitors to her San Francisco showroom might see a colonial Santos head or Japanese saws transformed into sculpture. Tansu Design also creates custom furniture, translating the Asian aesthetic into modern pieces for today's home.
