Why We Love This

Vintage Norwegian rugs and carpets often stand apart among Scandinavian carpets by virtue of their shorter pile and western European design, like this splendid example. The Neo-classical decoration and palette relate more to modish French Savonnerie carpets and Aubusson tapestries than to Scandinavian Rya or Rollakan rugs. Here the soft red roses and leafy branches are arrayed amidst a central scrolled medallion and corner pieces in soft aubergine on a warm tan ground.

About Nazmiyal

Jason Nazmiyal, the owner of the Manhattan-based rug company that bears his name, has been buying and selling antique and vintage rugs for three decades. His goal is not merely to find and offer the finest handcrafted rugs—worthy though that goal is—but also to share his knowledge of and passion for the art form. His collection, which ranges from Moroccan runners to Swedish flatweaves to antique Oushaks, shows that he continues to achieve both ambitions.
