Why We Love This

Vintage Taisho-period Japanese kotatsu, a wooden frame covered by a heavy blanket or futon. A heating element would be placed beneath the frame and people would sit with their legs underneath the blanket to keep warm. Would be an interesting coffee table with a glass top.

About Tansu Design

Inja Yang travels throughout Asia sourcing antiques for her 25-year-old business,Tansu Design. Her inventory of furniture ranges from Chinese horseshoe armchairs to blanket chests with iron hardware from her native Korea. Accessories are equally esoteric; visitors to her San Francisco showroom might see a colonial Santos head or Japanese saws transformed into sculpture. Tansu Design also creates custom furniture, translating the Asian aesthetic into modern pieces for today's home.
