Why We Love This

Mid-19th-century sea captain's hardwood chest, heavily carved. From an heir of Jonathan Dow, a famous Searsport, Maine sea captain. Dow and his brother Leroy captained a number of Maine-built tall ships during the 1850s-1870s. He commanded his first ship at age 21. Included is a picture of each ship he captained and his log book, typed out and bound.
