Why We Love This

Hand-painted bone china tea set from the Meiji period in Japan with beautiful multicolor scenes of geishas in a landscape, and flowers highlighted with gold. Signed on bottom "Imoto" (in Kanji characters). Often Japanese objects are presented in groups of five, based on the philosophies of Gogyo and Godai and the five elements: Chi (earth), Sui (water), Ka (fire), Fū (wind), and Kū (void or heaven).
