Why We Love This

Large multicolor tourist potter planter made in the Ozark Mountain area of the US; particularly in Buffalo, MO. It was also produced in IL, AK, and TX. It is made from a mortar dipped in a mix of oil, water and pigments to apply the decoration. The best examples of this style were produced circa 1930 and sold to tourists at road-side "trading posts." This represents a true American folk art form with a very limited production period.
