As described by Story of a Lifetime

Unusual Victorian-era marrow holder likely made between 1880 and '90. These were used in only the wealthiest homes, to hold a bone in place while the marrow was extracted, usually with a marrow spoon (which are much more common). Marrow was considered a delicacy. Unmarked silver top portion and mother-of-pearl handle. Trefoil-design "key" is turned to tighten or loosen the flexible "bone holder" body, and is in working condition. No maker's marks.
