A Parting Piece of Knowledge…

With its glossy finish and gorgeous milky-white hue, blanc de chine porcelain is a favorite of ours—and of designers and collectors all around the world. Its name, French for “white from China,” is a quite literal description: Blanc de chine originated in China’s eastern Fujian province, where it is referred to as Dehua porcelain. Produced since the Ming Dynasty in the 14th century, these designs began to be exported to Europe—and were given their French name—sometime in the 18th century. Blanc de chine is still incredibly popular today, used to create vases, lamps, teapots, religious figurines, and more.
