This piece is unusual in that it does not have the drain holes. The underside shows the pattern of the holes which were never punched. It was probably to display cheese rather than a working piece. Neufchatel cheese is one of the oldest cheeses made in France dating back to the 6th century. Found near the home of Neufchatel cheese in Normandy.

A miniature chest of drawers of commode in the French Empire style dating from the middle of the 19th century. It was probably refinished some time ago and has a mellow overall patina. There are four drawers, three with their original brass pulls and one blind drawer at the top of the case. It has cast metal feet consistent with full size commodes of the period. It was found near Avignon.

A period Napoleon III birdcage on stand dating from the middle of the 19th century. It is in a remarkable state of preservation down to its original glass faceted door knob. The cage is made of zinc coated steel and is on a wrought iron base similar to those of bistro tables. The cage is easily removable from the base for table top use or to be hung by the large top loop. It was found with dozens of coats of paint and was professionally cleaned to its original surface as you see it.
 
English Brass "Candlestick" Postal Scale

An interesting English postal scale dating from the late 19th century and marked by its maker, "R. W. Wingield Birmingham." It has a 4 oz capacity and a particularly ornate cast base. This style of scale is called a candlestick model for obvious reasons. It was professionally polished in England.

A sunburst mirror with a carved wooden frame. The carving is detailed and is gilded but the gilt is oxidized to a most pleasing patina with a hint of the red sizing under the gilt showing through. A very dramatic mirror. Its looking glass is original and measures 9" in diameter. It was found in Bordeaux.
