Late-19th-century chromolithograph from Johnson's Household Book of Nature. Based on the writings of eminent naturalists Audubon, Wallace, Brehm, Woods and others, the book was compiled by Hugh Craig and caused quite a sensation when it was first published in 1880. A fairy tale quality combined with anatomical and zoological accuracy characterizes the artist's view of various rodents including the Guinea Pig, Porcupine, and Capybara. Image, 6.25"L x 9"H.
