The base is formed as a lace cuff. Popular during the Victorian era for holding posies or spills. Spill vases have a cylindrical holder for containing splints or rolled paper tapers called spills, for transferring fire to light a candle or a pipe from a hearth fire. Light wear to the upper rim.
