19th-century premium box trunk manufactured by Chas Wilten of Chicago. Trunk has been re-covered in black cotton canvas and refitted with cedar slats with brass-wrapped ends. Trunk has wide brass sheet binding on all edges and wide brass sheet center accent band secured with copper nails. Corner guards and slat holds are heavyweight cast iron. Trunk features an ornate, unique double solid brass hasp lock, premium English bridle leather stitched handles with fancy cast end caps, and original Chas Wilten solid brass name tag on top of exterior lid. Cool, collectible, and fantastically versatile, these are trunks with a past--and a glowing future. Each wonderful antique has been meticulously hand-restored and repurposed as a one-of-a-kind work of art by Randall Barbera, who uses premium leather, rare woods, and centuries-old building and refinishing techniques to create the exquisite centerpieces here. "Punctuating the original design, and then taking it one step further to enhance its personality, is the ultimate goal," says Barbera, who spends a full six weeks on each. No two are alike.
