Why we love this

Malibu Mayan tile from the 1920s. Malibu Potteries is considered to have produced the best and highest quality tiles. The company was in operation from 1926 until 1932, when a fire destroyed the factory. Situated on the oceanside at Malibu, California, the clay was rich in minerals suitable for the unique red tile they were to produce. Rufus Keeler managed the company and adapted historic patterns and designs suitable for the architecture of Southern California, namely, Spanish Colonial Revival. Keeler was also responsible for formulating the special glazes renowned for their color and clarity. Their Los Angeles projects included the Eastern Columbia building on 9th Street, the Richfield Building on Flower St., Exposition Park Museums, City Hall, the L.A. Public Library, and the Mayan Theater.
