A native of Brazil, acclaimed San Francisco-based interior designer Antonio Martins has an uncommon global vision. He started his career in Switzerland, where he acquired an appreciation for European design. From Switzerland he moved to Venice, to Frankfurt, then to Hong Kong in the early 1990s for 11 years, where he became immersed in Asian arts and cultures, from Chinese furniture to Shan sculpture from Thailand to Indonesian textiles.

Portrait of an Officer attributed to Charles Matet (French, 1791-1870), oil on canvas. View area, 25"H x 21"L; frame, 33.5"H x 29"L. Matet was a painter of portraits, conservator of the Musée Fabre a Montpellier, and professor at the École des Beaux Artes. His paintings are in the following Museums: Laon, Montpellier, St. Etienne, Draguignan. White mark (shadow) to the left of the forehead.
