Why we love this
Pair of Japanese katagami designed for resist-dyeing patterns on kimonos during the Edo period, circa 1850. Each was handmade by skilled craftsmen specialized in stencil carving. Prior to the carving, several Japanese rice papers are adjoined to form a single sheet of paper and soaked in tannin-rich persimmon juice, which makes it durable, water resistant, and adds a warm brown tone to the paper. 16"L x 12.5"H; 16"L x 13"H. Age wear.
