Why we love this
French regional map by Jacob Blaeuw dated 1693. Commissioned directly by Louis XIV, this map is part of a series to map out accurately France and its interests. This particular map deals with episcopal and clerical possessions in France. The Blaeuw firm was known for its quality and accuracy in the 17th century. Blaeuw maps are extremely rare. This one commissioned by the French king is even more so. Cartouche upper right. Please note crease is NOT permanent and will disappear with framing.
