Why we love this
Vintage Japanese four-panel byobu screen depicting a scene from "The Tale of Genji," an important 11th-century novel by Murasaki Shikibu. Kano School tradition. Gouache and watercolor on gold-leaf over paper. Silk border. Lacquered wood frame. Metal hardware. Paper on back. Japan, Shōwa era (1940s-1960s). Excellent condition - minor age wear overall, couple dings on the back, gently used, hinges are strong.
