Why we love this
Early 19th-Century antique American portrait of a Connecticut Merchant, oil on canvas, circa 1815. Nicely painted, the portrait does exhibit significant craquelure, but this does not detract from the painting. Original frame has some loss of gilt on the sides of the frame (see photos). No signature. Paper label en verso reads, "Marwood 1076". Hanging hardware in place and ready for hanging. Dimensions: image, 17.75"L x 25"H; frame, 23"L x 2.5"W x 30"H.
